The short answerA certificate signed under The Society of NLP™ means one specific, checkable thing: an unbroken chain from student to licensed trainer to The Society of NLP™ in Dr. Richard Bandler’s own line — Bandler being co-creator of NLP™ itself. It is not a claim that the holder is excellent; it is a claim of verified lineage and a defined standard. This page explains what the signature does establish, what it does not, and the questions that let you verify any such certificate in minutes.

The signature matters. Not for the reason many websites imply.

A Dr. Richard Bandler-signed NLP certificate is valuable if what you want is a credential inside the Society of NLP™ lineage.

It is not a degree.

It is not a Government of India licence.

It is not scientific validation of every NLP claim.

And it does not prove that every person holding one can use NLP equally well.

So what does it mean?

Something narrower—and more defensible.

It identifies a specific lineage

Dr. Richard Bandler is one of the co-developers of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

The Society of NLP™’s public certification material states that successful students of its licensed trainers receive licensed certificates signed by Dr. Richard Bandler and John La Valle, President of the Society of NLP™.

That creates a recognisable chain:

student → licensed trainer → Society of NLP™ → Bandler lineage

For someone who specifically wants training connected to Bandler’s current certification system, this is not cosmetic.

It is provenance.

What the signature does not tell you

It does not tell you the size of the class.

It does not tell you how much individual feedback you received.

It does not tell you whether you can detect a small physiological shift accurately.

It does not tell you whether you can use a Meta Model question without destroying rapport.

It does not tell you whether you understand the evidence against some NLP claims.

It does not tell you whether you should work with a psychiatric disorder.

A certificate can establish completion within a system.

Competence still has to be observed.

Judgement still has to be developed.

Scope still has to be respected.

Why lineage still matters

This can sound paradoxical.

If a certificate does not prove everything, why care who signs it?

Because education has two different questions:

Where did the material come through?

and

What can the student actually do?

Lineage answers the first.

Assessment answers the second.

A serious school should make both visible.

How to verify a Bandler-lineage certification claim

Do not stop at a logo.

Ask:

1. Is the trainer authorised under the Society of NLP™ system?

Look for current verification through the Society or documentation issued under that system.

2. What exact level is being offered?

Practitioner, Master Practitioner and Trainer are different claims.

3. Who signs the student certificate?

The Society’s public materials state that licensed certificates issued through its trainers are signed by Dr. Richard Bandler and John La Valle.

4. Is the certificate included in the programme being advertised?

Do not assume that a trainer’s personal credential automatically means every workshop they conduct carries the same certification.

5. What must the student demonstrate?

The Society publishes Practitioner competencies across representation, rapport, anchoring, language, outcomes, reframing, submodalities, strategies and trance.

A training should show how these are taught and assessed.

Direct training versus lineage

Another distinction matters.

A trainer may have personally trained with Dr. Richard Bandler.

A trainer may be licensed within a Bandler certification system.

A trainer may have both.

Those are related but not identical claims.

Ask for the exact wording on the credential.

Precision is more impressive than inflation.

Dr. Maruti Sharma and the Bandler lineage

NLP Academy India publishes Dr. Maruti Sharma’s NLP credentials and supporting documentation on its Credentials page rather than asking the reader to accept a compressed biography.

His NLP history is also not being constructed from a recent certificate alone.

The archive includes an NLP Academy Switzerland relationship documented in 2004, alongside later training and certification connected to Dr. Richard Bandler and the Society of NLP™.

That chronology matters to us because a current credential and a historical practice answer different questions.

The current credential tells you where the formal certification stands now.

The older evidence tells you the work did not begin when the website did.

Does a Bandler-signed certificate make one trainer better than every other trainer?

No.

John Grinder, Robert Dilts, Judith DeLozier, the Andreas lineage, Neuro-Semantics and other branches of NLP have produced substantial bodies of work and their own training traditions.

Pretending that one signature erases the history of the field would be intellectually unserious.

Our narrower claim is this:

If a student wants Dr. Richard Bandler-lineage NLP, the authenticity of that lineage should be verifiable.

Then the student should evaluate the trainer separately.

What we think the certificate should sit on top of

A good certificate should be the visible end of an invisible process:

practice

feedback

correction

observation

repetition

assessment

Only then signature.

The order matters.

A famous signature attached to weak training is still weak training.

A strong training with clear lineage and serious assessment is harder to dismiss.

That is the standard we are trying to hold.
